Iraca (Toquilla palm) is a sustainable Colombian fiber prized for its traditional use in the famous Panama hats, bags, and jewelry. In our solar-powered workshop, artisans transform these palm fibers using ancestral techniques - harvesting, carding, and naturally dyeing with seeds, leaves, and minerals. The fibers are carefully wood-fired dyed and shade-dried before skilled weavers create our timeless fair trade pieces. Each piece in our jewelry and accessories collections is fair trade (Belart is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, Green America, MSA-Museum Store Association and NEST). They are thoughtfully handcrafted by master artisans, combining sustainable and natural materials like Tagua seeds, Iraca-Toquilla palm fiber, up-cycled wood, clay and upcycled horn with eco-conscious metals and resins. By preserving traditional techniques, providing fair, long-term employment, and development opportunities, we support artisan communities while creating unique, safe pieces that are free of lead, nickel, and cadmium.
