Nature’s Palette: Your Guide to Gorgeous, Sustainable Fall Clothes

A collage of Passion Lilie's fall clothes

Our fall and winter collection has arrived, and we can’t wait for you to see (and feel) it! For our most recent spring and summer collection, we featured the tropical colors surrounding our French Quarter design studio. They were bright, cheerful, and perfect for summer adventures. When Passion Lilie’s designer, Katie Schmidt, set down to plan this season’s collection, her inspiration for fall clothes was a bit different. The designs you’ll find in the fall and winter collection are an homage to the beauty of the changing seasons – they’re natural, sustainable, and lovely for the transition into cooler days ahead.

Each piece in this collection is crafted from 100% organic cotton, offering comfort, style, and sustainability. We’re proud to have reached this sustainable clothing milestone: your fall clothes were made with zero pesticides, fertilizer, or chemicals from farm to finish. As always, we used natural dyes for vibrant, eco-friendly colors. In our fall clothes, you’ll see earth-toned colors like sea blue, evergreen, merlot, gray, and black bring the season to life, while the prints – fall and winter floral, aquatic, and celestial designs – add nature’s artwork to our canvas of clothing.

The Power of Color: Understanding Color Theory and Associations

The Passion Lilie team believes that color is more than meets the eye. Colors carry deep psychological and emotional meanings that can influence our mood, behavior, and perception. In fashion, color theory is important in designing clothes that reflect the wearer’s emotions and the season’s vibes. Our sustainable fall clothes embrace the rich and subtle tones of the season, each color carefully chosen for the feelings it evokes and its connection to the natural world.

Our favorite blue clothes from the fall collectionDeep Sea Blue

The deep sea blue in our fall and winter collection reminds us of the ocean’s depths, offering a sense of calm, stability, and introspection. Blue is often associated with tranquility and reliability, making it a perfect choice for fall clothes that aim to provide comfort and peace during the cooler months. Wear these pieces to work, on dates, or on everyday errands to feel like the calm in the storm.

Our favorite green clothes from the fall collectionEvergreen

Green is the color of growth, renewal, and energy. We designed our evergreen pieces while thinking of the forests that remain vibrant throughout the winter season. This color symbolizes balance and a deep connection to nature. Wearing evergreen can make you feel a sense of freshness and harmony, making it perfect for those who want to focus on staying grounded and rejuvenated through the season.

Our favorite red outfits from the fall and winter collectionMerlot

A deep, rich red, Merlot is the color of passion, energy, and warmth. It reflects the vibrant color of autumn leaves and fruits. Red is often associated with power, love, and determination, making it an empowering choice for fall fashion. Incorporating merlot into your wardrobe can add depth and sophistication, perfect for making a statement while staying cheerful and cozy.

Our favorite gray outfits from the fall and winter collectionGray

Our gray pieces are versatile and comfortable. Gray represents neutrality, balance, and calm. It’s the perfect backdrop for the more vibrant colors in the fall and winter collection; and a great option for those who prefer neutral looks. The gray pieces in this collection call to mind a winter sky and all the coziness of layering your looks for the season. Gray fall clothes also provide a perfect canvas for dressing up or down with your favorite accessories.

Our favorite black outfits from the fall and winter collectionBlack

Black is classic – the color of elegance, mystery, and power. It’s a staple in any wardrobe and is especially relevant in fall fashion, where it serves as an alternative to the season’s richer hues. Black’s versatility allows it to be paired and layered with other colors, making it an essential part of our fall collection. Whether you’re cozying up in a celestial sweater, dressing up for a special occasion, or layering a butter-soft cardigan, our black pieces will be your staples throughout the fall and winter.

The Fabric of Fall Clothes: Organic Cotton and Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond natural dyes and color – it starts with the farms where our materials are grown. Each piece in this collection is made from 100% organic cotton, ensuring that our clothes are as kind to the planet as they are to your skin. Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, preserving the health of the soil and reducing the environmental impact of farming. Here are the fabrics that comprise our fall clothes, and the reasons why we love them:

Our favorite jersey cotton outfits in the fall collectionJersey Cotton:

Jersey cotton is known for its soft, stretchy, and breathable qualities, making it an ideal fabric for fall clothing. It drapes beautifully, providing a comfortable fit that moves with you throughout the day. Our jersey cotton pieces are perfect for layering, offering both warmth and style as the temperatures drop.

Some of our favorite jersey cotton pieces from this collection are our Starry Organic Pants (they look like business but feel like pajamas!), our Keya Organic Dress (the colors are LOVELY), and the Snowflake Organic Dress (the flattering style of a wrap dress in fabric that feels like a t-shirt? Say less!).

Our favorite ikat outfits from the fall collectionHandwoven Ikat

Ikat is a traditional dyeing technique that involves resist dyeing the threads before weaving them into fabric. The result is a fabric with intricate patterns that reflect the skill and artistry of the weaver. Our handwoven ikat pieces add heritage techniques to the collection, with each piece telling a unique story through its patterns and colors. The natural dyes used in our ikat fabrics reflect the earthy tones of autumn, making each of these hand-made pieces truly one of a kind.

Our favorite ikat pieces in the fall and winter collection are our Maritime Men’s Button Down (we loved this fabric so much we also made women’s button down and women’s pants), our Fall Equinox Pants (these colors are perfect for the season), and our Merlot Organic Wrap Dress (you’ll reach for this flattering silhouette over and over).

Our favorite cotton fleece sweaters from the fall collectionOrganic Cotton Fleece

As the weather cools, our organic cotton fleece pieces provide perfect layers for warmth and comfort. Fleece is soft, cozy, and insulating, making it ideal for those crisp fall days when you need a little extra warmth. Unlike conventional fleece made from synthetic fibers, our organic cotton fleece is biodegradable and free from harmful chemicals, ensuring that you stay comfy cozy while supporting sustainable fashion practices.

We have two organic cotton fleece sweatshirts in this collection – the Starry Organic Fleece Sweater and the Glacier Sun Organic Fleece Sweater – that we know you’ll love all season long.

Our Solar Organic Dress on a beautiful fall dayPrints That Tell a Story: Aquatic, Floral, and Celestial Designs

The prints in our collection are inspired by the natural world – from sea to sky and everything in between. Each hand-printed design celebrates shapes found in nature, from the delicate petals of fall flowers to the glittering cosmos of nighttime.

Floral: Floral patterns are a timeless element in fashion, and our fall collection brings a seasonal twist to this classic design. Our floral-printed dresses and top feature flowers that thrive in cooler weather, symbolizing resilience and beauty in any season.

Celestial: The celestial prints in this collection are inspired by the night sky and the mysteries of the universe. The stars, moons, and constellations on these fabrics evoke wonder and curiosity. Katie decided to explore this design theme because of significant events in her life that have aligned with the moon's phases. Fun fact: her baby’s middle name is Luna!

Aquatic: Also featured in our fall clothes is an unexpected marine theme. While aquatic designs are typically reserved for spring and summer palettes, Katie felt that the fall collection deserved the serene and calming qualities of water to contrast vibrant greens and reds of the season. Aquatic themes symbolize renewal, adaptability, and the life-sustaining properties of water, reminding us of the importance of preserving our waterways and the diverse ecosystems they support.

Whether it's a jersey cotton dress with hand-block printed marine foliage or a handwoven ikat dress featuring subtle sea-inspired motifs, these designs offer a refreshing take on fall fashion, merging the tranquility of the ocean with the cozy warmth of autumn.

Sustainable Fall Clothes: A Commitment to Ethical Fashion

As we transition into fall, it's essential to consider the impact of our fashion choices. Fast fashion continues to dominate the industry, but its environmental and ethical costs are too high to ignore. Our collection of sustainable fall clothes is designed to offer an alternative—one that prioritizes the health of our planet and the well-being of the people who make our clothes.

By choosing pieces from our collection, you're not only investing in high-quality, timeless fashion but also supporting practices that protect the environment and promote fair labor. Each piece is made with care and attention to detail, ensuring that you can enjoy your clothes for years to come.
