Passion Lilie’s products are all made with sustainable dyes. We believe it is important to use sustainable dyes to protect the makers behind each of our products and the environment. Below are the different types of dyes that we use. Most of our garments are made with organic and/ or azo free dyes. We do have a couple of scarves made from plant & vegetable dyes.
Sustainable Dyes
Organic Dyes
The organic dyes we use are GOTS certified and in comparison to vegetable dyes, they do not fade and the color stays bright over multiple washings. While it is a synthetic dye, organic dyes are an eco-friendly option. With organic dyes, we use a water-based binder, so no harmful chemicals are used in the process. This ensures that the fabric is safe to wear and safe for the environment throughout its life cycle. All of our block printed apparel and some of our accessories are made with organic dyes.
Sustainable Dyes
Azo Free Dyes
Azo dyes are synthetic dyes that are toxic and tainted with carcinogenic heavy metals. Azo dyes can be absorbed by the skin and accumulate in the body. This creates a risk of exposure for those wearing the products and for those producing the products. It is very important at Passion Lilie that we only use azo free dyes. You will not find any harmful chemicals in the dyes that Passion Lilie uses on our products.
Sustainable Dyes
PLANT & VEGETABLE DYES
Plant and vegetable dying, also called Kalamkari which refers back to the ancient art of hand painting garments, uses all natural elements such as fruits, leaves, bark and vegetables found throughout the state of India to create the dyes. This type of dyeing requires time, experience, attention to detail and good weather. From the pre-treatment to the finishing of the fabrics every step of the process uses natural elements found in nature. This process is very unique, but since the dyes do fade over time we find that it is only sustainable to use them on products like scarves that are not washed as often.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR Products
For best results, we recommend machine washing with mild detergent in cold water and line drying. Wash colors separately. Do not soak block printed fabrics and do not dry them in direct sunlight.
