Temperatures are finally dropping in New Orleans and it seems cozy season is finally here! If you’ve never visited New Orleans in the fall, you should – while it’s not the peak leaf peeping of New England, our weather and fall festivities are hard to beat. As we’re settling into what locals affectionately call “Gumbo Weather,” we thought we’d share one of our favorite cozy staples, available in both Passion Lilie shops.
If you’ve ever noticed the purple tins on Passion Lilie shelves, you may have wondered why a clothing shop is also selling tea. The answer is simple: we love it, and we want to share it with our customers! In addition to being delicious, JusTea shares our commitment to ethical production and supporting the people behind the products we love.
Same values, different craft
Our passion for fair trade, ethically made products extends well beyond the clothing we create. We love discovering great brands that share our values, and JusTea fits the bill.
Like Passion Lilie, JusTea is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, an organization dedicated to promoting fair wages, safe working conditions, and long-term relationships with artisans and producers around the world.
Both of our brands work directly with the people who make our products, building relationships that prioritize transparency, sustainability, and economic opportunity.
We love their story.
JusTea’s story begins in the beautiful Nandi Hills of Kenya, where farmers have been growing tea for generations. Traditionally, farmers sold their tea leaves to large factories for processing, leaving them with little control over pricing and profits.
JusTea took a different approach. Working directly with local farmers, they helped establish Kenya's first farmer-owned tea cottage factory, allowing farmers to process and sell their own tea. This means more of the profits stay within the community, creating sustainable jobs and economic opportunities for local families.
Today, JusTea continues to work closely with Kenyan farmers and a women’s tea cooperative, helping ensure that the people behind every cup are treated and compensated fairly. That’s a mission after our own hearts.
Why is this tea purple?
So glad you asked! We may or may not have been drawn to this tea by the pretty purple container. The tea itself is light and purple, too! It’s a unique Kenyan varietal with leaves that flush violet in the field. In the cup, it’s delicate and sweet – perfect for cozying up with a blanket and a good book on a fall day.
We're also big fans of JusTea's Chamomile Dream, an organic, single-origin chamomile tea that's just right for winding down at the end of a long day.
Come drink some tea with us!
Next time you're visiting one of our Passion Lilie shops, keep an eye out for those purple tins! We love sharing our favorite fair trade finds with our customers, and JusTea is no exception. Whether you're treating yourself to a cozy afternoon or looking for a thoughtful gift, a tin of delicious tea is always a good idea.
