Earth Month Spotlight: Nonprofits We Love in New Orleans and Beyond
In honor of Earth Month, we’re sharing some of our favorite local and global organizations doing great meaningful work in environmental sustainability and climate resilience. As a sustainable fashion brand, we believe this month is an opportunity to highlight the people and organizations creating real, lasting change.
This is a non-exhaustive list, and we would LOVE any input if there are others you think we should support.
These are the non-profits that the Passion Lilie team supports personally and/or through our business. Each one is a piece of the bigger picture: caring for our planet, supporting communities, and building a more sustainable future together.
Each April, we donate 10% of our sales to a local environmental nonprofit. This is important to us -- our community means everything to us, and we believe in the real change we can make by working together. None of us can do it alone, but when small businesses and local organizations work together, so much more is possible.
When you shop Passion Lilie, you're supporting fair trade artisans, reducing reliance on fast fashion, and contributing to environmental initiatives like these.
This Earth Month, we’re honored to support Common Ground Relief, a grassroots organization dedicated to environmental resilience and meeting the immediate needs of our community members.
Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Common Ground Relief has spent years nimbly responding to our community’s most urgent needs. What makes them so impactful is their ability to stay flexible and community focused, so they can step in where the most support is needed.
Common Ground shows up when our community needs them: a free food pantry for families facing hardship, mobilizing volunteers after climate disasters, and providing other emergency response. But beyond that, Common Ground Relief works to prevent emergencies in the first place by restoring our natural wetlands, offering youth education programs, and building a native plant nursery. They’re helping Southeast Louisiana build long-term resilience against climate change.
We’re proud to support their work and grateful to play even a small role in their mission.
ricRACK Nola
If you’ve been around Passion Lilie for a while, you know we love ricRACK Nola! RicRACK is a local organization we love because they combine our two true loves, fashion and sustainability. Textile waste is one of the biggest issues in fast fashion, which is why reuse and repair are so important. RicRack is a New Orleans nonprofit that uses recycled textiles to teach kids and adults how to sew.
Their Creative Reuse Shop gives new life to fabric, art supplies, and craft materials that might otherwise end up in landfills. Need a great costume? (It’s New Orleans…of course you need a great costume.) RicRACK should be your first stop for supplies!
We partner with ricRACK by donating damaged apparel that can’t be resold, helping ensure nothing goes to waste.
There are many ways to support ricRack:
- Shop their Creative Reuse Store
- Donate textiles or art supplies
- Take a class or workshop
- Make a financial contribution
ricRack is living proof that sustainability can be creative, accessible, community-driven, and FUN!
As a brand that produces clothing in India, we’re very aware that transportation is the largest contributor to our carbon footprint. Shipping garments from India to the U.S. (and then to your doorstep) is unavoidable if we want to continue supporting artisans in India, which is absolutely core to our mission and identity.
Rather than ignore this impact, we decided to take responsibility for it. Through our partnership with Grow Ahead, we support farmer-led agroforestry projects that help reduce the carbon footprint of fashion production while also providing income and stability for small-scale farmers.
We’ve also made it easy for our customers to participate. At checkout, you can choose to plant trees and offset your order’s carbon footprint.
Since launching this initiative in 2025:
- 57 trees have been planted
- Customers have donated $113 ($2 plants one tree)
- Most donations range from $1-$10
We’ve loved seeing our community be part of this with us. It's another way our small actions together can make a real difference.
Tharangini Studio
Halfway around the world, our partners in India share our passion for people and the planet.
Tharangini Studio, where Passion Lilie’s block printed textiles are made, has a multi-generational mission of heritage craftsmanship and forward-thinking environmental practices.
In partnership with Climes, their studio is now officially carbon neutral for current production processes. This means they are actively measuring, reducing, and offsetting emissions with full transparency and traceability.
Their work is a reminder that traditional techniques and modern sustainability efforts can coexist and strengthen each other. Fair trade fashion makes a difference in so many ways and we’re proud to be their partner!
Why this matters
Earth Month is a reminder that sustainability is more powerful when we work together. From local New Orleans nonprofits to artisan partners in India, every piece of this ecosystem matters. We see this every day in our work, and we’re inspired by the people pushing for a better future.
As a small business, we see our role as using our platform, our products, and our community to support the people doing this work. When you shop with Passion Lilie, you’re part of this impact, and we’re so grateful for you.
